VALENTINE, Neb. – Kansas men’s golf made it look easy on the back nine of round two at The Jackrabbit Monday, collecting a season-high 13 birdies, which would translate into a 6-under par finish on the day. Kansas heads into the final round of at 12-under par and three strokes behind tourney leader Central Florida.

Leading the charge for Kansas was sophomore Ben Sigel, whose 4-under 68 on Monday marks a career-round low. Sigel shot an even par on the front nine and would follow it up with five birdies and a bogey on the back nine, carding a 36-32. Sigel’s stellar performance puts him at third overall in the 73-golfer field.

“Ben hit some really good shots and made some solid birdies,” KU head coach Jamie Bermel said. “It was good to see him shoot 4-under.”

After a 5-under 67 first-round finish, sophomore Harry Hillier continued to play at the top of his game with a 2-under 70 in round two. Hillier is currently in second place overall at 7-under and is one of three Jayhawk golfers in the top six. UCF’s Kyler Tate leads the field at 9-under par after finishing round two at 5-under.

KU redshirt sophomore Drew Shepherd collected his first sub-par finish of the season in round one with a 1-under 71 and went on to replicate that performance Tuesday making him 2-under for the tourney. Shepherd goes into the final day of the Jackrabbit tied for sixth.

Kansas junior Andy Spencer came into round two at even par and would finish the day 1-over (73). Spencer, who finished 7-under (209) at last season’s Jackrabbit, sits in a tie for 12th place. Senior Jake Scarrow and freshman Shaun Campbell both entered round two shooting 1-over par and would both conclude the day 6-over. Scarrow and Campbell are tied for 33rd.

Kansas (-12) and UCF (-15) are the only two teams under par after two rounds. Idaho is in third at 8-over in the 13 team field.

“For Tuesday, we need to get off to a better start on the front nine and continue to stay aggressive,” Bermel said.

The third and final round of the Jackrabbit is set to tee off Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. Live scorecard updates throughout the day can be found at https://kuathne.ws/2ItX5eQ.
