KU travels to North Carolina searching for another top-5 result

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Seeking its sixth-consecutive finish in the top-5, the Kansas men’s golf team will head to Kannapolis, North Carolina, to participate in the Irish Creek Intercollegiate. The two-day, 54-hole event will take place at the Club at Irish Creek.

“This is a golf course where there are three-to-five really challenging holes and three-to-five that are fairly simple and you can get a good score on,” said Jayhawk head coach Jamie Bermel. “We’re going to need to be very efficient on the hard holes and take advantage of the scoring opportunities on the other holes”

Bermel will return the same lineup that he has gone to for the past four tournaments. Sophomore Andy Spencer will take the No. 1 spot for the Crimson and Blue, followed by senior Daniel Sutton and junior Charlie Hillier. Senior Daniel Hudson will take up the No. 4 slot, and will be searching for his 10th-career top-10 finish, and 20th-career finish in the top-20.  Freshman Harry Hillier will be the final Jayhawk competing on the Kansas scorecard, while junior Jake Scarrow will also play as an individual.

As it stands, the weekend’s forecast is calling for wind, and highs of only 57 degrees on Saturday and 55 degrees on Sunday. With rain in sight during Saturday first and second rounds, the Jayhawk golfers could be dealing with another element to make their 36 holes even more challenging.

“The weather is going to be a factor, especially with wind and rain coming in for the 36-hole day on Saturday,” said Bermel.  “It will all depend on how bad the wind is.”

Saturday’s first and second round begins with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. CT. Live scoring will be available at golfstat.com.
