LAFAYETTE, La. – Kansas freshman Chase Hanna and sophomore Ben Welle each carded a 1-over 73 in the final round of the Louisiana Classics at Oakbourne Country Club Tuesday. As a team, KU shot a third round 298 (+10) giving the Jayhawks a three-round 899 (+35) and placing them 12th.
 
Hanna’s three-round tournament total of 220 (+4) placed him in a tie for 25th in the 72-person field. He carded seven birdies and an eagle in his three rounds. Welle finished the event with six birdies while placing in a tie for 35th with a 6-over par, 222.
 
KU sophomore Conner Peck carded a third round 76, (+4) giving him a three-round total of 227 (+11) placing him in a tie for 53rd. Junior Logan Philley also shot a 76 on the final day and placed in a tie for 60th with a total score of 230 (+14). Peck finished the weekend with five total birdies, while Philley was able to card six birdies.
 
Redshirt sophomore David Auer shot a final round 78 (+6), bringing his tournament total to 248, placing him 71st. While Auer struggled in his first collegiate tournament in two years there were some bright spots as he was able to string together three straight birdies in his final round bringing his total birdie count to seven in the event.
 
Illinois lead the Louisiana Classics from wire to wire behind a third round 290 (+2), bringing its final tournament score to 839 (-25). Six strokes back at 845 (-19), LSU took second place after its third round 283 (-5).
 
LSU’s Myles Lewis won the individual portion with a three-round 206 (-10), which included a tournament low 66 (-6) on the final day of the event.
 
Up next the Jayhawks will travel to Phoenix, Ariz., for the Desert Shootout March 20-22.
