Jayhawks Make Cut at the PGA HP Byron Nelson Championship

Former Kansas men’s golfer Gary Woodland and Chris Thompson have each made the cut at the PGA HP Byron Nelson Championship at the TPC Four Seasons Resort in Irving, Texas. For Thompson, this is his first-ever PGA Tour event.

Woodland, from Topeka, Kansas, shot a 2-under 68 in Thursday’s opening round and improved one stroke with a 67 (-3) on Friday. His 5-under 135 is tied for 10th, one stroke from second and three from first. A two-time All-Big 12 performer in 2006 and 2007 while at Kansas, Woodland has now made the cut in 13 of 14 PGA events in 2013-14.

Thompson, who calls Lawrence, Kansas, home, shot a 1-under 69 in each of his first two rounds and his 138 (-2) is tied for 25th heading into Saturday’s third round. He entered Friday in 29th position. Thompson was a two-time All-American while at Kansas in 1998 and 1999 and has been competing professionally since 2006, mainly on the WEB.COM and the Adams tours. He qualified by winning a playoff earlier in the week to compete in the Byron Nelson.

The HP Byron Nelson Championship will conclude with 18 holes on Saturday and 18 on Sunday.
