Kansas concludes season at Big 12 Championship

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – After two days of racing on Melton Lake, Kansas rowing concluded the 2018 season at the Big 12 Championship on Sunday in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

Altogether, Kansas was fourth in the Big 12 Championship with 71 points and sixth in the Automatic Qualifying Championship with 21 points. Senior oarswoman Kaelyn Thierolf was recognized on the All-Big 12 team for the third year in a row at the post-regatta award ceremony.

The Jayhawks raced in the Grand Final in all five events on the final day of the league championship. The First Varsity Eight recorded KU’s best finish on the last day, placing fifth in the 1V8 top final with a time of 6:58.4.

In the first four events of the day, Kansas earned sixth place finishes before KU’s 1V8 fifth-place mark to close out the spring racing season. The Second Varsity Eight crossed the finish line in 7:09.9, while the First Varsity Four navigated the 2,000-meter race course with a time of 7:52.7.  

The Third Varsity Eight and the Second Varsity Four were the first boats to launch on Sunday. The Third Varsity Eight recorded a time of 7:30.6 for sixth place, while the Second Varsity Four also placed sixth with a time of 8:06.1.
