2016 Big 12 Championship Bracket

THE BASELINE
Kansas women’s tennis, who finished the regular-season portion of its schedule in a five-way tie for second place in the Big 12 Conference, is set to participate in the 2016 Big 12 Conference Tennis Championships hosted on the campus of Oklahoma State. The Jayhawks will play in the tournament as the No. 4 seed where they will take on No. 5 seed Baylor in their opening round match at 4 p.m., on Friday, April 29, at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
 
KANSAS AND THE BIG 12
Kansas’ second place finish in the conference standings marked the Jayhawks’ highest finish since finishing second in the league in both 1997 and 1998. The Jayhawks posted a 6-3 ledger in conference matches, marking its most Big 12 wins since picking up six during the 2008 campaign. Kansas owns a 7-15 all-time record in the Big 12 Conference Championship. KU has fallen in the quarterfinals to Baylor in each of the last two seasons.
 
THE SERIES: KANSAS vs. BAYLOR
Baylor (17-13, 6-3 Big 12), leads the all-time series with Kansas (16-6, 6-3 Big 12), 21-5. Kansas won the matchup between the two schools earlier this season, 4-3, snapping a 13-match losing streak to the Lady Bears.
 
SCOUTING THE LADY BEARS
Baylor, who is currently ranked 39th, enters Friday’s Big 12 Championship quarterfinal match against KU with a 17-13 mark. BU has gone 13-4 since taking on the Jayhawks early in Big 12 Conference play, including riding a five-match win streak heading into Friday’s competition. Last season, the Lady Bears finished No. 8 in the country, after producing a 28-7 record and making the NCAA quarterfinals.
 
UP NEXT
The winner of Kansas-Baylor will face the winner of top-seeded Oklahoma State and Kansas State at 3 p.m., Saturday. The women’s championship will be broadcast on FS2 at 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 1.
