Kansas to face TCU Friday in Big 12 Championship Quarterfinals

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The third-seeded Kansas women’s tennis team (No. 20 in the country) will face TCU Friday at noon in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Conference Tennis Championship at the Jayhawk Tennis Center at Rock Chalk Park.

Kansas is hosting the Big 12 Men’s and Women’s Championships beginning Thursday at the Jayhawk Tennis Center and Sports Pavilion Lawrence, both located at Rock Chalk Park. Both Championship matches will be played Sunday afternoon at the Jayhawk Tennis Center.

The Jayhawks earned a bye into Friday’s quarterfinals by virtue of their third-place finish in the conference. The Horned Frogs lead the all-time series, 6-2. Kansas, however, currently has a two-match win streak against TCU, including a 6-1 victory on March 31 at the Jayhawk Tennis Center.

“TCU is a quality opponent, so we are 100 percent focused on our match Friday,” said Kansas head coach Todd Chapman. “It is exciting to still be playing at home and hopefully we can continue to play well at home like we have all season.”

The Jayhawks enter the Championship with a record of 16-4, 7-2 in the Big 12. Kansas is currently on a five-match win streak and is a perfect 11-0 at home this season.

Texas, the No. 1 seed, finished league play undefeated at 9-0 and compiled an overall record of 16-3. Oklahoma State came in at No. 2. Texas Tech finished fourth, just behind Kansas, followed by Oklahoma, TCU, Kansas State, Iowa State, Baylor and West Virginia.

Live stats and streaming will be available as well as updates throughout the tournament on Kansas tennis’ social media accounts.
