Rychagova named Big 12 Co-Player of the Week

IRVING, Texas – Kansas junior Anastasia Rychagova was named the Big 12 Conference Women’s Co-Player of the Week as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.
 
This is the first time in nearly two years that a member of the Jayhawk team has earned the conference honor since Rychagova tabbed the title March 16, 2016. Overall, this marks the third time Rychagova has won player of the week in her career.
 
No. 2-ranked Rychagova earned four wins in singles and doubles over the weekend against then ranked T24 Oregon and William & Mary.
 
February 16, Rychagova teamed up with fellow junior Nina Khmelnitckaia to down the Ducks’ No. 10-ranked duo of Shweta Sangwan and Alyssa Tobita, 6-3, winning KU’s first doubles point of the season. Facing Tobita in singles, Rychagova prevailed in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-0, and clinched the overall match for the Jayhawks, 4-1.
 
Sunday, February 18, Rychagova and Khmelnitckaia, again, took the doubles point for Kansas after a 6-1 victory against Rosie Cheng and Olivia Thaler. Rychagova breezed through her singles match against No. 68-ranked Cheng, 6-0, 6-2, and extended the Jayhawk lead, 3-1.
 
The Moscow, Russia, native owns a 14-2 overall record, including a perfect 4-0 mark in dual play. Against ranked opponents, Rychagova is a successful 9-1 in such matches.
 
In addition to her conference honor, Rychagova moved back to the top spot in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association singles poll Tuesday morning. This is the second time Rychagova has been ranked as the No. 1 player in the nation. She also finds herself on the doubles list with Khmelnitckaia at No. 29, marking her highest doubles ranking thus far.
