Three Jayhawks ranked on end-of-year ITA polls

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Kansas tennis team has three players, including senior Despoina Vogasari, junior Anastasia Rychagova and Nina Khmelnitckaia, featured in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) final singles and doubles rankings of the 2017-18 season.
 
Rychagova ended at the No. 9 spot after staying in the top-10 throughout the entirety of the season. She held the No. 1 ranking twice this season, once at the end of the fall and again on February 20. Despite missing the last 10 matches of the season due to injury, Rychagova managed an 18-3 overall record, including 8-1 at the top of the lineup in duals, as well as 11-2 against nationally-ranked opponents.
 
Coming in at No. 51 on the singles list is Vogasari. The senior saw time at both the No. 1 and 2 positions for KU to tally an impressive 25-9 mark on the season. Vogasari went 14-4 in dual matches and ended her collegiate career on an 11-match win streak. In March, Vogasari earned a career-high win over a ranked opponent when she defeated Texas Tech’s No. 11 Gabriela Talaba in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
 
Appearing on the doubles poll for the Jayhawks is the tandem of Khmelnitckaia and Rychagova at No. 19. The Moscow, Russia, natives put up an overall record of 15-4, including 8-2 in dual play at the No. 1 position. The duo earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Doubles Championship where they went 1-1 against opponents, ending their season in the Round of 16.
