Simpson Wins Jamaican Long Jump Title

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Kansas track & field’s Francine Simpson won the long jump at the Jamaican National Championships Friday night inside National Stadium.

The senior out of Chapelton, Jamaica hit a top mark of 6.35 meters (20’10”) to claim the title. Simpson, who finished third in the event at the Jamaican Olympic Trials a year ago, was crowned the Jamaican Champion for the first time of her career.

Simpson must now chase the standard to qualify for World Championships in August. If she can match or top 6.75 meters (22’1.75″) by July 20, she will have the opportunity to represent Jamaica in the world meet to be held in Moscow.
