Emilianov set for European Championships

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas track & field freshman Alexandra Emilianov is set to represent her home country of Moldova at the 2018 European Athletics Championships in Berlin, Germany, August 9-11.
 
A product of Chisinau, Moldova, Emilianov will compete in the women’s discus qualifying round on August 9 at 9:30 a.m. local time (2:30 a.m. CDT). If she qualifies for the final, she will compete again on August 11 at 8:20 p.m. local (1:20 p.m. CDT).

Emilianov has already had a successful 2018 season, winning the Big 12 Outdoor discus title with a throw of 60.24 meters (197-8 ft.), which broke the Kansas school record and is currently the World U20 leader. Following her Big 12 title, the freshman earned Second Team All-America honors in the discus at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, finishing 12th with a mark of 51.30 meters (168-4 ft.).
 
After the NCAA season concluded, Emilianov won the gold medal in the discus at the World U20 Championships in Tampere, Finland for Moldova, hitting a mark of 57.89 meters (189-11 ft.).
 
FINLEY READY FOR NACAC SENIORS
Jayhawk alum Mason Finley is set to represent the United States for the North American, Central American, and Caribbean Athletics Association (NACAC) Senior Championships in Toronto, Canada, August 10-12. Finley will compete in the discus on Sunday, August 12 at 1:45 p.m. EDT (12:45 p.m. CDT).
