Kansas men rank No. 23 in USTFCCCA week two poll

NEW ORLEANS – The Kansas men’s track & field team ranked No. 23 in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association weekly poll, released Monday.
 
The Jayhawk men currently have four athletes that rank in the top-25 in the nation in their respective events. Hussain Al Hizam and Nick Meyer rank No. 8 and 13, respectively in the pole vault, with Al Hizam’s top mark coming last week at the Jayhawk Classic where he cleared 5.48 meters (17-11.75 ft.) to notch a personal best and win the event. Al Hizam’s mark not only ranks eighth in the country, but tops the Big 12 performance list this season.
 
Senior Barden Adams currently ranks No. 7 in NCAA Division I in the triple jump, posting a career-best tying mark of 16.01 meters (52-6.5 ft.) at the KU-KSU-WSU Triangular on January 13. Adams ranks fourth on the Kansas men’s indoor all-time performers list with the mark and currently ranks second in the conference.
 
Senior thrower Nicolai Ceban made his season debut at the Jayhawk Classic where he won the men’s shot put with a mark of 19.03 meters (62-5.25 ft.). Ceban’s mark currently ranks 15th in the nation and second among Big 12 athletes.
 
In the week two women’s pole, the Kansas women cracked the top-50 for the first time this season, climbing four spots to No. 49. Four athletes and one relay team rank in the nation’s top-25, including junior Sharon Lokedi, who ranks fourth in the 5,000-meter run, and senior Laura Taylor, who ranks fifth in the pole vault.
 
Both teams will look to improve their rankings this weekend at the Rod McCravy Memorial in Lexington, Kentucky. The Jayhawks will compete against Clemson, Illinois, Purdue, Virginia Tech and the host Kentucky, on February 3. The meet is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. CST and will be available to stream live online on the SEC Network Plus at WatchESPN.com.
