Taylor garners Big 12 women’s athlete of the week honors

IRVING, Texas – Kansas senior pole vaulter Laura Taylor was named the women’s Big 12 Track & Field Athlete of the week for her performance at the Jayhawk Classic on Saturday, January 26.

Taylor, a native of Tualatin, Oregon, broke the Anschutz Pavilion record for the pole vault, on her way to a collegiate-best mark. Taylor cleared 4.34 meters (14-2.75 ft.) to surpass her previous-best indoor mark of 4.28 meters (14-0.5 ft.). The clearance proved to be two inches better than the standing Anschutz Record, set by former Kansas standout Natalia Bartnovskaya at the Jayhawk Challenge in 2013 (4.45m; 14-0.75 ft.).

Taylor becomes the second Jayhawk this season to win a weekly Big 12 award, as junior Nicole Montgomery earned the honor on January 17.

The Jayhawks travel to Lexington, Kentucky to compete in the Rod McCravy Memorial on Saturday, February 3. Kansas will compete against Clemson, Illinois, Purdue, Virginia Tech and the host, Kentucky at Nutter Field House, with action slated to begin at 9 a.m. CST. The meet will be streamed live online on the SEC Network Plus via WatchESPN.com.
