Kansas Rowing Clinic Educates the Community

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The community rowing clinic hosted Saturday, September 14 by Kansas Athletics and the Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department was a success as the two-hour event maxed out in attendance.

The clinic featured current members of the Kansas rowing team and divided them up with citizens of Lawrence that were unfamiliar with the sport. Attendees received a tour of Kansas’ Burcham Park Boathouse and practiced on the team’s ergometer machines prior to launching out onto the river in eight-person boats. The day was deemed a success by current members of the Kansas coaching staff.

“I think everything went well. The girls (current KU rowers) enjoyed playing coach for the day and all of the interaction, and the attendees got a chance to become familiar with our sport and get to know some of our rowers on a more personal level, said head coach Rob Catloth. The weather was amazing and I thought this was a great opportunity to get involved with the community.”

The Kansas rowing team will begin its fall season on October 5-6 at the Head of the Oklahoma in Oklahoma City. Make sure to check the Jayhawks out in action as they host the Jayhawk Jamboree on October 20th at the Burcham Park Boathouse, located at 200 Indiana Street in Lawrence. The home event will be the first regatta hosted in Lawrence since 2005.
