KU Soccer to Face West Virginia in Big 12 Championship

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas Soccer will be the No. 8 seed at next week’s Big 12 Soccer Championship and will face the top-seeded West Virginia Mountaineers it was announced by the league office after the final regular-season games concluded Friday night. KU’s quarterfinal match versus WVU is set for Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 5:30 p.m. in Kansas City, Mo., at the Swope Park Soccer Village.
 
The Jayhawks fell to the now two-time reigning Big 12 regular-season champion Mountaineers, 2-0, in the teams’ only regular season meeting on Oct. 18 in Morgantown. KU and WVU have never met in Big 12 tournament play.
 
Live stats and video streaming will be provided via the Big 12 website at www.Big12Sports.com, and KU fans can also listen to live audio of KU’s matches via Jayhawk Digital Passport. Should the Jayhawks win, they will advance to Friday’s 5:30 p.m. semifinal game and will play the winner of Wednesday’s Iowa State versus Baylor match.
 
Kansas concluded its regular season earlier in the day Friday with a thrilling 2-1 win over the Oklahoma Sooners to claim the eighth and final spot in the championship. The Jayhawks finished the regular season 7-10-2 with a Big 12 record of 2-5-1. Kansas has qualified for the Big 12 Championship 13 of the 15 seasons of head coach Mark Francis’ tenure.
