Anastasiya Rychagova Finishes as Singles Runner Up at ITA Central Regional

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas freshman Anastasiya Rychagova turned in an outstanding performance at her first big-time collegiate competition, winning 6-of-7 matches on her way to a runner up performance at the 2015 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Regional.
Rychagova lost just one set in her first six matches, including a win over 12-ranked Viktoriya Lushkova of Oklahoma State, on her way to Monday’s title match against OSU junior Katarina Adamovic.
Adamovic, who is the 92nd ranked player in the NCAA, took the first set in quick fashion, 6-1. Rychagova would not go down without a fight as she battled throughout the second set. With the score knotted at 6-6, Adamovic edged Rychagova 7-1 to take the second set and match by the final score of 6-1, 7-6.
“We are extremely proud of Anastasiya,” said Kansas head coach Todd Chapman. “She had a fantastic tournament and is off to an unbelievable start as a Jayhawk. She is disappointed in today’s result, and that’s what we love about her. She isn’t content with a good tournament, she wants to be the best.”
Rychagova was not the only Jayhawk to find success in Stillwater, as KU won 16 of its first 21 matches at the Central Regional.
“As a team, we grew and got a lot better,” said Chapman. “All of the girls played some really good tennis and had some very good wins. We will take a couple days off and get back to the grind of getting better once we return to Lawrence.”
Kansas will close out the fall portion of its 2015-16 slate when it travels to Lubbock, Texas, Nov. 6-8 for the Texas Tech Invitational.
