Maroszek Closes Out USA Championships with Record Discus Outing

DES MOINES, Iowa – Junior Jessica Maroszek notched a seventh-place finish with another school record performance in the discus on the fourth and final day of competition at the 2013 USA Track & Field Championships Sunday inside Drake Stadium.
Maroszek, who notched a fourth-place discus finish at the NCAA Championships two weeks ago, again started her competition on a high note. The Seymour, Wis., native unleashed a new personal best mark of 58.01 meters (190’4″) on her first attempt of the afternoon. The mark overtook Maroszek’s previous school record by four feet and rewrote the school discus books for the third time this season. It also put her in the lead after the first of two flights of competition. After advancing to the final rounds of throws, Maroszek was unable to improve on her first attempt mark, which was good enough to garner the junior a seventh-place finish in the event.

Paris Daniels suited up in the crimson and blue for the final time as she competed in the semifinals of the 200 meters. The senior out of St. Louis posted the 11th-fastest time in the preliminary round Saturday, clocking in at a wind-aided 22.59 to advance to the 16-woman semifinal. In the second of two semifinal heats Sunday afternoon, Daniels sped through the finish to take sixth in her heat. Her time of 23.13 was 12th overall and was just .25 seconds off from earning her a spot in the event final.

In all, Kansas track & field saw its athletes finish in the top-eight in four events at the USA Championships, which included Andrea Geubelle’s victory in the triple jump Thursday.
