Jayhawks in the NFL: Week Six

Lawrence, Kan. – Week six of the NFL regular season begins this Sunday, with five former Jayhawks playing for their respective teams in five games on Sunday. While on a bye week for week six, defensive back Shakial Taylor was recently promoted to the active roster for the Indianapolis Colts last week, where he recorded one tackle in the Colts’ victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Six Jayhawks in total are currently on active NFL rosters, while Fish Smithson (Baltimore Ravens), and Joe Dineen Jr., (Denver Broncos) were placed on injured reserve, with Daniel Wise (Dallas Cowboys) was placed on the practice squad to begin the 2019 season.

Washington Redskins vs. Miami Dolphins

Jayhawks in Action: Steven Sims Jr (Redskins)

Last week against the New England Patriots, Steven Sims Jr., scored his first-career touchdown for the Redskins, taking a end-around 65-yards for a touchdown. Sims has been a force to be reckoned with this year, returning nine kickoffs for 205 total yards, ranking fourth in the NFL in return yards this season. This week the winless Redskins (0-5) square off with the winless Miami Dolphins (0-4).

Seattle Seahawks vs. Cleveland Browns

Jayhawks in Action: Bradley McDougald (Seahawks)

In week five of the NFL season, Bradley McDougald and the Seattle Seahawks inched out a win against the Los Angeles Rams in a close game, ending in 30-29. McDougald made the start for the Seahawks’ defense, managing four tackles and two assists during the game. So far this season, McDougald has totaled 24 total tackles, while the Seahawks have jumped out to a 4-1 record.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Los Angeles Rams

Jayhawks in Action: Aqib Talib (Rams)

In last week’s conference battle against Bradley McDougald and the Seattle Seahawks, Aqib Talib made the start for the Rams and recorded two assisted tackles and one solo tackle in the game. So far this season, Talib has recorded 14 tackles, while the Rams are sitting with a 3-2 record in the NFC West. This week,  Rams look to bounce back against conference foe San Francisco 49ers, though they will have to do so without Talib, as he has been ruled out for Sunday’s contest against the 49ers.

Dallas Cowboys vs. NY Jets

Jayhawks in Action: Dorance Armstrong Jr (Cowboys)

In week five, the Cowboys took on the Green Bay Packers, where Dorance Armstrong Jr., recorded his first-career sack. Armstrong’s sack came in the fourth quarter on Packers’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Armstrong also added three tackles in the game, which brings his total up to five tackles this season. This week, the Dallas Cowboys take on the New York Jets at Metlife Stadium in New York.

Tennessee Titans vs. Denver Broncos

Jayhawks in Action: Chris Harris Jr (Broncos)

Last week against the Los Angeles Chargers, the Denver Broncos found their first win of the season by taking down the Chargers, 20-13. Veteran Chris Harris Jr., made the start at cornerback for the Broncos, where he recorded two tackles, upping his season total to 14. This week, the Broncos will look to add another tally to the win column, as they take on the Tennessee Titans.
