Miles adds Shumate, Ducote to football staff

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas football head coach Les Miles announced the addition of Dave Shumate and Devin Ducote to the Jayhawks’ football staff on Friday. Shumate joins the KU staff as the director of player personnel and Ducote comes to Lawrence to fill the role of senior analyst for special teams.

Shumate comes to KU after spending three years at Texas A&M, two of which were as the assistant director of personnel for the Aggies. In College Station, Shumate managed the roster, recruiting boards and the walk-on program, evaluated prospective student-athletes and kept up with nationwide recruiting news, assisted coaches during contact and evaluation periods and handled advanced scouting of opposing team personnel.

Shumate previously served as a coordinator of player personnel at Auburn in 2016, and was the coordinator of offensive player personnel at Georgia from 2014-16.

After graduating from Alabama in 2012 with a major in communication studies and a minor in telecommunication and film, Shumate was a personnel analyst at Miami (Fla.).

Ducute joins the Jayhawks after spending the previous three seasons at Auburn, where he was a defensive analyst. Prior to Auburn, Ducote was a member of Miles’ staff at LSU as a graduate assistant from 2014-15, and coached defensive backs at his alma mater, Stephen F. Austin, from 2012-13.

As a player at SFA, Ducote was a three-time All-Southland Conference selection at linebacker from 2007-10. He helped the Lumberjacks to Southland Conference titles in both 2009 and 2010. His career total of 414 tackles ranked second in the NCAA’s FCS Division, while his total of assists (238) ranked first.

A product of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Ducote received his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from Stephen F. Austin in May, 2011 and a master’s degree in exercise science in August, 2015.
