Five Jayhawks Earn Academic All-Big 12 Honors

IRVING, Texas – For the sixth year in a row, Kansas softball has had at least five Jayhawks earn Academic All-Big 12 honors, as announced by league office Thursday morning.
Seniors Kylee Kennedy and Shannon McGinley, juniors Taylor Dodson and Taylor McElhaney and sophomore Erin McGinley garnered first-team recognition for 2016. Shannon McGinley and Taylor McElhaney earned their second career academic award from the Big 12 while Dodson, Kennedy and Erin McGinley earned their first.
A four-year letterwinner, Kennedy is graduating in May from Kansas with a degree in business marketing. One of five captains this season, Kennedy has appeared in eight games and is hitting .200. She has recorded two hits, including a home run, and four RBIs.
Shannon McGinley, a three-year letterwinner, is also set to graduate in May with a degree in business marketing. McGinley has started every game of 2016 in the outfield and is batting .348 on the season. She has registered 48 hits, good for second most on KU’s roster. McGinley has recorded 10 doubles, a home run and 14 runs batted in.
A community health major, Dodson has appeared in 24 games and made 12 starts in 2016. The Grove, Oklahoma native is hitting .186 on the year with eight hits, including four for extra bases. Dodson has hit three home runs and posted 12 RBIs.
McElhaney, a community health major, has started all 46 games this season at second base. The Talala, Oklahoma product is batting .200 with 18 hits, including three doubles, and seven runs batted in. Defensively, McElhaney has recorded 68 assists and 101 putouts while posting a .977 fielding percentage.
A business marketing major, Erin McGinley has started 40 games this season and appeared in 43 contests. She is hitting .346 on the year with six doubles, two home runs and 19 RBIs.
