Roane, Ridling named NFCA All-Region honorees

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Kansas softball seniors Jessie Roane and Harli Ridling were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Midwest Region team on Thursday.

Roane earns her first-career NFCA All-Midwest Region Second Team distinction after leading the Jayhawks with a .377 batting average and starting all 52 games at third base this season. The Rio Rancho, New Mexico, native recorded team-bests of 16 doubles, 60 hits, 20 multi-hit games and a .346 batting average during Big 12 play.

A four-year starting catcher, Ridling earns third-team all-region honors for the second-straight season after concluding her career ranked third on KU’s all-time home runs list (37). The Sentinel, Oklahoma, native led the Jayhawks with nine home runs this season while driving in a team-high 32 runs.

This is eighth-straight season Kansas been represented on the NFCA All-Midwest Region Team, including the sixth-straight time there have been multiple Jayhawks on the all-region squad.

Both Roane and Ridling graduated from KU last week.

A total of 389 student-athletes from 164 teams were named to the NFCA All-Region teams this season. The awards honor softball student-athletes from the NFCA’s 10 regions with first, second and third-team selections. NFCA member coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to the 2018 NFCA Division I All-American squads.
