Travieso named to Big 12 All-Freshman Team

IRVING, Texas — Kansas softball utility Tarin Travieo was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team on Wednesday as the conference announced its postseason awards.

Travieso started in 40 games for the Jayhawks during her freshman campaign, including 25 starts as the designated player, 14 at first base and one as the starting pitcher.

The San Antonio native had the second-most RBIs (30) and home runs (seven) on KU’s roster while hitting .275 at the plate. In the circle, Travieso made 14 appearances with one start, recording a total of 20 strikeouts in 39.2 innings pitched.

She made her collegiate debut in her hometown during the UTSA Softball Tournament, recording a .385 batting average with two home runs and eight RBIs in her first five games as a Jayhawk. Her six RBIs against UTSA on Feb. 16 are the most by a Big 12 player this season.

On March 3 at North Carolina, Travieso willed the Jayhawks to an 8-7 victory over the Tar Heels by hitting her first-career grand slam and earning her first-career winning decision as a pitcher during the extra-inning contest.

Travieso’s 16-game reached-base streak is a team-high for the Jayhawks and her six games with multiple RBIs ranks third among Jayhawks this season.
