LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Senior Jeff Hawkins hit four 3-pointers and tied a career high with 19 points to lead the University of Kansas to an 87-46 victory over Yale (7-7), Wednesday at Allen Fieldhouse. The victory was the Jayhawks fifth in a row and improved their record to 8-4 on the season.

Kansas used a 14-2 run to finish the first half and a 7-0 run to start the second stanza to pull away from the Bulldogs. After leading 36-25 at halftime, KU out-scored Yale 51-21 in the second frame while shooting 57 percent from the field. Kansas recorded a season high 29 assists on its 35 field goals.

Sophomore guard Russell Robinson set a career high with eight assists and tied a career best with five steals. KU scored 31 points off 22 Yale turnovers.

Sophomore center Sasha Kaun scored 12 points and pulled down five rebounds. Freshman guard Mario Chalmers received his first collegiate start and responded with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting. A total of 12 Jayhawks tallied points in the contest.

Kansas will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 7, against Kentucky at Allen Fieldhouse. The Jayhawks and Wildcats will tip off at 11 a.m. on ESPN.
