Kansas Takes Down Border Showdown Rival Missouri

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

The University of Kansas men’s basketball team defeated Border Showdown rival Missouri, 79-46, on Saturday afternoon at Allen Fieldhouse, extending its winning streak to nine games. Kansas has not lost since it was defeated by Missouri Jan. 16 in Columbia. The win improves the Jayhawks to 19-6 on the season and 10-2 in Big 12 play.

KU jumped out to an early 24-6 lead that it would not relinquish for the duration of the game. Kansas held the Tigers to 31.9 percent shooting on the game, including just 22.2 percent in the second half. The Jayhawks, however, were hot the entire game, finishing 31-of-59 from the floor (52.5 percent).

KU’s high scorer on the afternoon was freshman Mario Chalmers with 14 points, but the scoring was spread evenly with a total of 11 Jayhawks putting points on the board. Freshman Brandon Rush dropped in 13 points to go with his five rebounds and four assists. KU also out-rebounded Mizzou by a 41-20 margin.

Missouri’s high scorers were Jimmy McKinney and Thomas Gardner who both put in 15 points on the game.

The Jayhawks return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 21, to take on the Baylor Bears at Allen Fieldhouse. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and can be seen on Jayhawk TV.
