Sophomore C.J. Giles scored 24 points and recorded seven rebounds to lead the University of Kansas to a 73-47 exhibition victory over Pittsburg State Monday at Allen Fieldhouse. KU concludes its exhibition schedule 2-0.

Giles sent KU on a seven-point run early in the first half with a dunk to break a 7-7 tie. Senior Jeff Hawkins followed with a three-pointer and Giles finished the run with two free throws. KU out-scored the Gorillas 34-19 the rest of the half to take a 41-26 lead into the break.

In the second half, Kansas kept Pittsburg State off the scoreboard for the first 5:38 and extended its lead to 22 points. Giles scored 13 of his 24 points in the second half and shot 8-of-10 from the charity stripe.

Hawkins pitched in six points, six assists and seven rebounds. Sophomore Darnell Jackson scored eight points and pulled down seven rebounds in 17 minutes off the bench. KU’s bench scored 50 points in the game.

KU tallied 34 points in the paint to PSU’s eight. The Jayhawks converted 24 Gorrilla turnovers into 27 points on the night.

The Jayhawks will open the regular season at home against Idaho State on Friday, Nov. 18. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.
