LAWRENCE, Kan. – Freshman Tyshawn Taylor’s career-high 23 points, coupled with a dominating rebounding performance, led Kansas by New Mexico State, 100-79, Wednesday evening at Allen Fieldhouse.

Four other Jayhawks joined Taylor in double-digits, including sophomore Cole Aldrich who recorded his fourth straight double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds.

The win moves the Jayhawks to 5-0 at home on the season and 6-1 overall. New Mexico State drops to 2-3 on the campaign.

The Jayhawks jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the opening two minutes led by four Taylor points. The Aggies would never claim the lead during the contest.

The Aggies got within four points of the Jayhawks with three minutes remaining in the first half before the Jayhawks went on an 11-4 run to end the half and enter intermission with a 42-31 advantage.

The closest the Aggies would come to the Jayhawks in the second period was seven points with 12:35 remaining. The Jayhawks quickly bumped their advantage back up to 15 behind back-to-back Sherron Collins and Tyrel Reed three-pointers.

The Jayhawks held a 46-20 rebounding advantage in the game, and corralled as many offensive rebounds as the Aggies did rebounds in total with 20.

The winning effort included the strongest performance of the year by the Jayhawks’ bench which outscored the Aggies’ reserves, 40-16. Sophomore Tyrel Reed and freshman Quintrell Thomas led the way with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Kansas continued its free-throwing shooting excellence by shooting 15-of-17 from the line, good for 88.2 percent.

The Jayhawks will next take on Jackson State at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6 at Allen Fieldhouse. The game will mark the Jayhawks’ fourth straight game at home.
