Stan Van Gundy to be Featured at 2013 Bill Self Basketball Coaches Clinic Oct. 18-19

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Former NBA coach Stan Van Gundy will be the featured speaker at the 2013 Bill Self Basketball Coaches Clinic Oct. 18-19 at Allen Fieldhouse.

On Friday, Oct. 18, Van Gundy will address the clinicians along with Self and assistant athletics director for sport performance and 2013 NSCA National Coach of the Year Andrea Hudy. Additionally, KU men’s basketball will practice in front of the clinicians.

The following morning’s lineup includes instruction by KU’s assistant coaches – Kurtis Townsend, Norm Roberts and Jerrance Howard. The clinic will conclude with an open practice and scrimmage for KU men’s basketball from 9:45-11 a.m.

Self, four-time Big 12 Coach of the Year and the 2009 consensus national coach of the year, has guided KU to a school-record nine Big 12 regular-season titles, including the 2013 crown. Under Self, Kansas’ 300 wins in the last 10 seasons are more than any other NCAA Division I school.

Van Gundy spent 12 seasons with the Miami Heat and was the organization’s head coach from 2003-05, guiding the Heat to the Eastern Conference finals in 2005. From 2007-12 he was head coach of the Orlando Magic and led the Magic to the NBA Finals in 2009 and the Eastern Conference finals the following season. Van Gundy was twice named an NBA All-Star Game head coach in 2005 and 2010.

The Bill Self Kansas Basketball Coaches Clinic officially begins at 2:40 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18, with registration starting at 2 p.m. Those who pre-register, prior to Oct. 13, will have the option to purchase a ticket for the Oklahoma at Kansas football game on Oct. 19 at 2:30 p.m. Cost of the clinic is $90 for those that pre-register and want to attend the football game or $60 without a football ticket. Walk-up registration is $70 and will not include a football ticket.
