Overview
Has great length and can change the game by altering shots… A true defensive low post presence… A great shot blocker… Added 15 pounds from his freshman to sophomore seasons… In summer 2005, was one of 21 players invited to the USA Basketball men[apos]s Under 21 National Team trials… Giles was injured on the first day of trial practices and did not compete the rest of the trials.

Sophomore Season (2005-06) A regular who started 13 games, including two Big 12 contests… Averaged 6.2 points and 4.8 rebounds per contest… Led Kansas and was seventh in the Big 12 in blocked shots with 48 (1.45 per game)… Had two or more blocked shots 16 times and led or tied for the team high in blocks on 13 occasions… Registered seven or more rebounds in nine games… Scored in double figures seven times… Recorded four points against Bradley in the NCAA Tournament… Totaled eight points and eight rebounds during the three-game Big 12 Championship… Scored three points and pulled down five boards at Kansas State (March 4)… Totaled 11 points, eight rebounds and two blocks against Colorado (March 1)… Scored eight points and grabbed four rebounds off the bench at Texas… Had 10 points and six boards against Baylor… Totaled four points, five rebounds and two blocks against Missouri (Feb. 18)… Scored four points, grabbed five rebounds and blocked two shots at Oklahoma State (Feb. 13)… Played 18 minutes against Kentucky, scoring 10 points and grabbing six rebounds (Jan. 7)… Tied a career high in rebounds against Pepperdine with 10 (Dec. 19)… Had career highs in minutes (32) and blocks (five) against California (Dec. 10)… Blocked four shots against Western Illinois (Dec. 3)… Ranked third in the EA SPORTS Maui Invitational field with 7.7 rebounds in the three games, including 10 against Arizona (Nov. 21)… Tied a school record by making nine straight field goals against Chaminade (Nov. 23)… Had a career-high 21 points against Chaminade… Opened the season against Idaho State with seven points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots.

Freshman Season (2004-05)
Showed great potential throughout the season, yet was hampered with a foot injury off and on during his freshman year… Grabbed a season-high eight rebounds in just 10 minutes of action against Nevada… Recorded four points and five rebounds in a season-high 13 minutes against TCU… Blocked three shots in seven minutes against South Carolina… Played 15 minutes, scoring six points and grabbing four rebounds against Wisconsin-Milwaukee… Scored two points and grabbed three rebounds in his first career start against Georgia Tech… Started his second straight game and scored four points against Texas A&M… Scored a career-high 10 points on 5-of-5 shooting in 17 minutes at Kentucky… Played a season-high 21 minutes, scoring four points and grabbing six rebounds against Iowa State… Made his fifth start of the season against Nebraska… Scored four points and had three blocks against Iowa State… Scored four points against Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Tournament.

Canada Exhibition (Fall 2004)
Averaged 14.5 minutes, 6.8 points and 4.0 rebounds in four KU wins in British Columbia, Canada… His best scoring game of the trip was 10 points against Langara College… Pulled down seven rebounds in the first game of the trip versus the University of British Columbia.

High School
Rainier Beach High School (2004)… Coached by Coach Michael Bethea… Averaged 17 points, 12 rebounds and six blocks per game as a senior… Was the 2004 Seattle Metro MVP… Was the runner-up for Washington Player of the Year his senior campaign… Was rated the 62nd-best high school player in the country by Rivals.com.

Full name is Chester Jarell Giles… Born September 23, 1985, in Seattle, Wash… Nicknames include C-Note and Stretch… African American Studies major… Parents are Chester Giles, Sr. and Gail Goodwin… C.J.[apos]s father, Chester, played for KU under former coach Ted Owens — 1979 and 1980 (3.1 ppg and 2.8 rpg in 48 games at KU)… Originally signed with Miami.
