Three Jayhawks named to CSCAA Scholar All-America team

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Three Kansas swimming and diving Jayhawks found their names on the 2018 College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Honorable Mention team, the organization announced Wednesday.

Juniors-to-be Haley Downey (breaststroke and individual medley) and Jenny Nusbaum (freestyle), and sophomore-to-be Manon Manning (backstroke, butterfly and freestyle) each achieved a grade-point average (GPA) of 3.50 or higher, and a “B” time standard in the pool to earn the nod.

Downey finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke, and the 400-yard individual medley at the 2018 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship en route to All-Big 12 First Team honors. Her time of 1:01.43 and 2:13.50 in the 100- and 200-yard breaststrokes both set new Kansas records in the process.

Nusbaum swam her way to All-Big 12 First Team accolades after placing second in the 1,650- (16:43.33) and fourth in both the 500- (4:47.62) and 200-yard (1:47.92) freestyle events. Her times posted in the 1,650 and 500 were new career-bests.

Manning earned an All-Big 12 Second Team nod when she ended the league meet with fifth- and ninth-place finishes in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke with times of 54.87 and 2:00.21, respectively.

This marks the second such honor for Downey and Nusbaum, and the first for Manning. In addition, Kansas has had at least one individual Scholar All-American in each season dating back to 2013.
