Zeferjahn invited to USA Baseball Collegiate National Team

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Sophomore right-handed pitcher Ryan Zeferjahn earned an invitation to the 2018 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team roster the organization announced Wednesday, June 15.

As part of this selection, Zeferjahn will participate in a game against the Coastal Plain League Select, as well as a series against Chinese Taipei. During this time, he will be competing for a spot on the final 24-man roster that will compete in a series against Cuba and Japan. He is also the first Jayhawk since 2009 (T.J. Walz) to earn an invitation to the team.

“It is a real blessing and an humbling honor to have the opportunity to represent your country with the best college players in the nation,” Zeferjahn said. “Very few have this opportunity, and I just want to take in the experience and do my very best as I represent the United States and the University of Kansas.”

Zeferjahn garnered All-Big 12 Second Team honors and finished the 2018 season with a record of 8-5 and a 4.48 ERA. He became the first Jayhawk since 2016 (Ben Krauth) to strike out 100 batters in a season, finishing the year with an even 100 that rank tied for sixth in the Kansas single-season record books.

The USA Baseball Collegiate National Team will participate in three international friendship series, beginning with the 18th USA vs. Chinese Taipei International Friendship Series that will be held in North Carolina from June 28 – July 2. The U.S. will then announce a final 24-man roster to compete in the 42nd USA vs. Japan Collegiate All-Star Series from July 3-9 in Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina; and the 7th Annual USA vs. Cuba International Friendship Series in Cuba from July 13-18.
