📣 Raquel Thomas Retires as Kansas Rock Chalk Dance Team Coach

LAWRENCE, Kan. – After nine seasons, Kansas Rock Chalk dance team coach Raquel Thomas will be retiring from her position announced on Friday, June 4.

“There are moments in life that allow you to reflect on what is truly important after difficult times,” stated Coach Thomas. “In order to take care of my family, I need to direct my time and efforts towards those who have loved and supported me through all of it. Over the last 20 years, I have had the honor and privilege to coach and mentor collegiate dancers from all over the country. With the last nine years being here at the University of Kansas coaching the Rock Chalk Dancers, I have decided to step away from coaching to focus on family and continue teaching. Though this was an extremely difficult decision, I am confident that the program will continue to grow and fulfill the dreams of dancers for years to come.”

Coach Thomas was named head coach in May 2012. “In her nine seasons at Kansas, we are extremely grateful for Coach Raquel’s dedication and impact on so many students at the University of Kansas,” said Cat Jarzemkoski spirit squad director. “Raquel has led many young women with dedication and passion during her time at KU. We are so thankful to Coach Raquel for bringing the dance team to a higher level of talent and character during her tenure and we wish only the best to an outstanding person with a joyous spirit and exceptional character!”
